Volkswagen Motorsport India has provided the first glimpse of a new track-only car ahead of its unveil next week.

The car, which appears to be based on the road-going Polo, has been built by Volkswagen India’s motorsport arm with “complete creative freedom" and doesn’t conform to any racing or rally regulations in India.

Volkswagen says this characteristic of the car will make it “apt for an enthusiast to take it out for a track day.”

The car was pictured outside Volkswagen India’s plant near Pune, just before it was loaded on a truck to be shipped to Chennai.

VW will take the covers off its new car on Wednesday at the Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai, where the company will be celebrating 10 years of its Indian motorsport programme.

All of VW’s India-made race cars, from the original Polo Cup machine to the current Ameo and Vento TC-4, and rally cars are expected to be present at the event.

Several drivers from VW’s one-make championships have gone on to have a successful career at national and international level, with Aditya Patel, Karthik Tharani and Anindith Reddy being the most notable examples.
