JK Tyre Championship set for thrilling climax at Buddh circuit
The 2018 season of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship is set for a thrilling conclusion this weekend, with some of India’s best racers vying for the top spot at the Buddh International Circuit.
The weekend will see 13 races take place across various categories, ranging from cars to bikes.
As always, the Euro JK category will steal most of the spotlight, thanks to powerful and recently updated Formula BMW cars that are capable of producing 160 bhp.
Ashwin Datta leads the category with 74 points, six clear of Karthik Tharani and a further two ahead of Nayan Chatterjee. With 32 points on offer across four races this weekend, any of the three drivers could win one of India’s two most prestigious single-seater championships.
Meanwhile, multiple National Racing Champion Vishnu Prasad heads the Formula LGB category, which offers the closest racing of all but features cars that are less sophisticated than those in Euro JK.
Prasad, who drives for MSport, sits 14 points clear of both Rohit Khanna and Chittesh Mandody, who are tied on 47 points.
On the two wheel front, the season finale will feature two races each in the 600cc and 1000c JK Superbikes category.
In addition, several international riders will fight it out in the Indian round of FIM Asia Cup of Road Racing. That series will feature several female riders, including Ann Jennifer of India.
As always, JK Tyre has lined-up a large entertainment package around the event, headlined by none other than Guinness Award winner and stunt driver Terry Grant. He will be joined by Red Bull-sponsored freestyle athlete Aras Gibieza, while Punjabi pop singer Jasmine Sandlas will also be present.
