Spa F3: Daruvala adds podium to Race 1 win
Force India Formula 1 junior Jehan Daruvala finished on the podium in the second race of Belgian round of the European F3 series on Friday.
Daruvala had qualified only 12th on the grid for Race 2 at Spa-Francorchamps, but a charge in the opening two laps catapulted him to sixth position.
He made some bold moves, such as the one on Alex Palou, and also benefited from Prema drivers Mick Schumacher and Guanyu Zhou dropping out of contention with contact at turn 1.
When race leaders Ralf Aron and Juri Vips crashed into each other under braking into Les Combes, Daruvala jumped up to fourth position and started chasing Robert Shwartzman.
After an unsuccessful attempt around the outside on lap 9, Daruvala made a move stick on the following tour to grab the final podium spot.
Thereafter, he closed-in on race leader Dan Ticktum and second-placed Fabio Scherer with a series of fastest laps and ran on their tail for the final third of the race.
He attempted a last-gasp move over Scherer heading into the Bus Stop chicane, but couldn’t edge ahead and ended up 0.183s behind at the chequered flag.
It was his fifth podium finish of the season and followed a victory in Race 1 earlier today.
