Mahaveer Raghunathan will step up to the FIA Formula 2 series in 2019 after signing a deal with MP Motorsport.
Raghunathan has past experience of both European F3 and GP3 and his career highlights include a title in the BOSS GP’s Formula class.
He spent most of the 2018 on the sidelines, but will return to competition this year in Formula 1‘s leading support category.
Raghunathan’s links with MP extend back to 2016, when he first tested for the squad at the post-season Abu Dhabi test.
He got to sample the series’ new Dallara F2018 car for the first time at Barcelona last month and has has now secured a full-season drive with the Dutch team.
“I’m very happy with this great opportunity”, said Raghunathan. “We had a positive test at Barcelona, and I will use that experience to make a good start to the season.
“Having such an experienced team mate as Jordan will be invaluable as I’m aware that I’m on a steep learning curve.”
Raghunathan will be joined by two-time GP2/F2 race winner Jordan King, who will return to the series after a one-year hiatus.
“I welcome both Jordan and Mahaveer to the team”, said Sander Dorsman, MP’s team manager. “Jordan is a known quantity, as was proven when we got back into the groove at Jérez.
"Mahaveer, meanwhile, has the speed to be part of F2. He’s only had three days of testing, so I’m sure we will see vast improvements as the season comes along.”
