Honda India riders head for Asia Road Racing finale in Thailand
A three-rider contingent from Honda Racing India is in Thailand this weekend for the final round of the Asia Road Racing Championship.
As has been the case all season, Indian racers Rajiv Sethu and Anish Shetty will compete in the mid-tier Asia Production 250cc class, while Japan’s Taiga Hada will represent Honda India in the flagship Supersport 600 category.
Sethu scored three points during the India round of ARRC in August after successfully recovering from an injury that forced him to miss two races earlier in the season, while rookie Shetty enjoyed a double points finish in the Australia opener but hasn’t finished inside the top 15 since then.
Both will be hoping to end the season on a high at the Buriram International Circuit, a track they have past racing experience on.
Currently, Sethu sits 27th in the riders’ championship, one spot ahead of his countryman and teammate Shetty.
A lot of attention will also be on Hada, who brought delight for Honda India’s home crowd by scoring a double podium in Chennai less than three months ago.
Thanks to his regular run of points finishes, he occupies ninth spot in the riders’ standings, with his results propelling the Honda India squad to seventh in the teams’ classification.
“The final round will be full of expectations and pressure for all the riders,” Mr Prabhu Nagaraj, who presides Honda India’s racing programme, said.
“This season gave an authentic international exposure to our Indian riders at Asia’s toughest motorsports racing.
“With all the learning & experience this year, both Indian riders would be looking for improving their position in AP 250 class while Taiga Hada would be fighting for a podium in the finale of this season in SS 600 class.
“This season has given us a lot of learnings and we will be working on the weak points to be back stronger to compete in this premium championship.”
